Story of Mint Herb
In ancient Greek history there are plenty of tales about love, jealousy, grief and revenge. The story about mint's name is one of them. God of the underworld, Pluto, fell in love with the beautiful nymph, Minthe. One day Pluto's wife, Persephone, caught the happy lovers together. In rage and jealousy she killed Minthe, trampled her underfoot and finally turned unfortunate nymph into a low-growing plant. Pluto, horrified and grieving over his lover's death did not have the power to reverse Minthe's fate. So he gave her the gift of sweet scent. It is released whenever mint is trampled. |
