Prunning Tips
In most cases, late winter to early spring is the best time to prune. There are some exceptions, like-early flowering evergreens which should be pruned right after they stop blooming in spring. Know your plants before you buy and plant them, use the following few simple tips for pruning below and enjoy your garden growing, blooming and thriving. • Remove branches that are dead or diseased • Remove misplaced branches that rub against others or cross other branches • To encourage more branches/more bushy growth, shorten a stem • Where growth is too congested, remove selected stems completely (to prevent regrowth) • Evergreens should be trimmed in shape, narrower at the top to keep the top from shading the bottom • Cuts must be clean to promote faster wound closure • Use sharp pruner or saw so you can make clean cuts These are general rules only. For more details, study/research your specific plant.
